Hadid & Chapelet for Lab23.

In April 2013, the Italian manufacturer Lab23® presented Chapelet Studio's Zadig bench alongside the Serac bench, designed for the brand by Zaha Hadid. That evening in Milan, Stéphane Chapelet had the honour of talking with the architect, one of his references.

A Lab23® collection in 2013

That year, Lab23® asked the studio to present new products as well as earlier designs, including the Zadig bench. The brand also commissioned architect Zaha Hadid, who designed the Serac bench for it.

The launch of the Serac bench

At an evening event held during the Milan furniture fair, Lab23® presented the Serac bench to the press together with the studio's Zadig bench. Zaha Hadid came to the launch with Patrick Schumacher, her partner, who took over Zaha Hadid Architects after her death in 2016.

Artists on the Serac bench

The opening brought together artists, including dancers and painters, who performed on the Serac bench. This beautiful bench perfectly reflects Zaha Hadid's style and her deconstructivist architectural principles.

Two hours with Zaha Hadid

Winner of the Pritzker Prize in 2004, Zaha Hadid was the first woman to receive it, the highest honour given to an architect. The great British architect honoured the reception Lab23® held for her by staying for two hours. Stéphane Chapelet was able to talk with her during the evening: she is one of his reference architects.

International coverage

The event drew wide coverage from the international press, which particularly liked the collaboration between Lab23® and Zaha Hadid.

An honour for the studio

For Chapelet Studio, showing a product alongside one by Zaha Hadid was a great honour. The origami-inspired Zadig bench had already stood in front of the Milan Triennale since 2012. That evening, Stéphane Chapelet also answered ArchiExpo's questions.
