Bench.
In Alassio, on the Italian Riviera, the city chose the bench designed by Stéphane Chapelet for Lab23® to furnish its streets and squares. Its name, simply "BENCH", sums up the intention: an obvious, functional and durable bench. It can also be found in Riga, Latvia.
Simplicity as a principle
BENCH reduces the object to its essentials: comfortable seating, clean lines and a sturdy construction designed for intensive use of public space. It is the studio's principle applied directly: form follows function.
From Alassio to Riga
In Alassio, the bench offers residents and visitors a place to rest that blends effortlessly into the Italian townscape. In Riga, the capital of Latvia, it furnishes public space in a very different climate: proof of a simple, adaptable and durable design.
Simple to make, made in Italy
Its straightforward design keeps manufacturing steps, and therefore costs, to a minimum without sacrificing quality. BENCH is commercialized by Lab23® and made in Italy.
Lab23, an Italian manufacturer, makes street furniture in Italy from steel, Corten, wood and Hypergranite. It shows the studio's designs alongside those of Zaha Hadid, at Milan's Fuorisalone and in the specialist press.
