Museum.
Several of Stéphane Chapelet's Zadig benches furnish the maritime museum in Bergen, Norway. Inspired by Japanese origami, they offer visitors contemporary seating in a museum setting.
Steel folded like paper
Zadig is made from laser-cut steel plates that are then folded. The folds go alternately inwards and outwards: the name Zadig evokes this zigzag.
Shadow play
Its facets create very interesting shadow play, which changes with the light and brings the space around the bench to life.
A landmark in the museum
Zadig was designed as a totem: its highly recognisable form makes it a landmark. In a museum, it accompanies the visit while remaining a comfortable seat.
Remarkable places
Modular, Zadig combines into multiple seats or zigzag compositions. It has been very successful in museums and lobbies: in front of the Milan Triennale since 2012, at the iGuzzini headquarters in Barcelona, high on the island of Capri and in Moscow. Zadig is made in Italy by Lab23®.
Lab23, an Italian manufacturer, makes street furniture in Italy from steel, Corten, wood and Hypergranite. It shows the studio's designs alongside those of Zaha Hadid, at Milan's Fuorisalone and in the specialist press.
Lab23 presented Zadig in the Italian magazine Architettura del Paesaggio (issue 24, 2011). In 2013, the international magazine Dezeen mentioned it in its article on Zaha Hadid's Serac bench, another of the manufacturer's designs.
